Batu Caves and Hindu Temple


400 million years old Limestone Caves


Located in a limestone outcrop. It consist of three big caves, including the main cave which features ornate Hindu Shrines. The 140 feet height Lord MURUGAN statue by the 272 steps leading up to the temple is one of the highlights. The main cave holds a Shrines of lord Subramaniam, a deity revered by the Hindus. Every year at a festival called Thaipusam, hundred of thousand of devotees, watched by a fair share of the curious, converge at the shrines, offering thanks-giving and prayers.

Set in another cave, it features intricate clay figurines and painting from Indian mythological tales. True to the art form, the sculptures of Indian deities and scenes from Indian mythological are painted with bright, sometimes verging on the garnish, colours.
